Paint Yourself

Societal expectations weigh heavy on the individual.

What society expects of me to achieve on their terms, rather than that of my own, is extremely exhausting.

I find myself continuously returning to this state of complete torpor.

But I have to remind myself, I am not what they say I am.

I am whoever I say I am.
And whatever I make of my own self.

I am not what they make me out to be.

Namely since I am conscious of my own existence as an autonomous being in this physical world.

And society cannot strip me of who I am and what I am…Me.

That is, they could never take me—and my individuality as a being—away from me.

The thought of that must be what frightens them the most.
